Not the cheapest accessory but a fair bit cheaper than getting a dedicated macro lens and as the tubes don't have any glass they will not degrade the image quality you generally get with your camera and lens. I used these tubes firstly with my Canon 70-200 f4L lens and got some fantastic results, then with a reverse mounted Canon 50mm lens to get some super-magnified shots. The only problem I found with the tubes was that they really made me catch the macro bug and I then went and bought a Tamron 90mm macro lens afterwards! These tubes keep the electronic contact points with your normal lens which allows you to maintain autofocus, although you may want to switch to MF with your telephoto and get a bit more creative.
The 3 different length tubes mean that your focusing distance is more flexible than just getting one standard length tube, and they can be used in any configuration. I'd recommend these if you're not sure about macro photography and want to have a go, but they can still be used with a macro lens to reduce focusing distance even more, which means greater magnification close-up
